"Wolves of The Birch"
"Wolves of the Birch"
is available as an 11"X17" print by Christopher Parent ©1999
This is a 16X20"
drawing done in the pointillism or stippling technique. I am inspired
by nature and the landscape and often include birch trees in my
drawings. I suppose my love for the image of the birch began when I
was young. In our backyard we had a huge fir tree that blew down
during a winter storm. In the spring I asked my Mom if I could plant
a birch tree to replace the old fir tree our family had loved so
much...she agreed and 25 years later that old birch still grows in
my parent's backyard.
Wolves on the other
hand are one of my favorite animals. I often wonder what they are
thinking and the pose they are in here is one of mystery. What are
they thinking, what are they looking at? That is for the viewer to
decide.

Every autumn
this scene is played out daily. In a dance of survival one life
gives it's own for the survival of the other and what may seem
gruesome and even sad to humans is the way of life for these
creatures. The salmon has returned to spawn after it's short
years of survival in the ocean only to end it's life in the jaws
of the great Grizzly Bear.
